Edge Counties Network (ECN)

Edge Counties Network (ECN) was set up in May 2005. Edge Counties taking part in the European network share experience relating to regional development and arrange activities in order to benefit from their location near metropolitan areas.

Around Europe there are a number of metropolitan areas that will show significant growth in the foreseeable future. Such regions have the advantages of good communications, a sound business mix, educational opportunities, innovative power, flexibility, recreational facilities, rich cultural choice and relatively good environmental conditions.

Edge Counties must be able to take advantage of being part of a larger, dynamic region. At the same time, any disadvantages presented from this situation must be handled. A deeper knowledge is required about the factors that affect the development in functional regions, as well as factors that enable development being spread evenly within the functional region.
